Tidal Power in China

China is a latecomer to the tidal power game, but has recently invested in two projects. The Jiangzia project is complete and generates about 3.2 megawatts or power through a barrage system. A second, similar installation is planned for the Yalu River.

Jiangzia Tidal Power Station

The Jiangzia Station is the third largest tidal barrage in the world and was completed in 1985. It generates 3.2 megawatts of power and will likely be expanded in the future. It is also an interesting study in cogeneration as it hosts a 40 KW photovoltaic system as well. The tidal range in the area is approximate 8 meters.
